About TAKE ACTION! Publishing

TAKE ACTION! Publishing, a subsidiary of Create-A-Book Baltimore,

(1) helps aspiring and seasoned authors use online resources to print Christian-themed works of fiction and non-fiction; and

(2) helps individuals and organizations document their stories of challenge and/or triumph in taking action against social, environmental, and economic injustices.

TAKE ACTION! Publishing is in hiatus until 2016. We will post new submission guidelines in 2016!


CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS:
Poems, Short Stories, and Creative Essays


TAKE ACTION! Publishing is seeking writers to submit original poems, short stories and/or creative essays on any of the following themes/topics:

(1) Overcoming an Addiction/Bad Habit;
(2) Overcoming Domestic Violence/Abuse;
(3) Overcoming Low Self-Esteem/Depression;
(4) Overcoming Personal Challenges/Barriers;
(5) Overcoming Racism and/or Hatred;
(6) Overcoming Grief and Loss;
(7) Overcoming Divorce;
(8) Overcoming Anger and Bitterness;
(9) Overcoming Eating Disorders and/or Weight Anxieties;
(10) Overcoming a Health Crisis and/or Disease;
(11) Overcoming Negative Attitudes;
(12) Overcoming Poverty; or
(13) Overcoming Defeat

TAKE ACTION! Publishing welcomes aspiring or seasoned writers to submit original, unpublished poems, short stories (fiction), and/or creative essays (non-fiction) describing how they or someone they know tackled one of the themes/topics listed above.

Poems can range from 100 - 1,000 words. Short stories, and/or creative essays can range from 1,000 - 13,000 words.

All entries will be considered for inclusion in a series of anthologies scheduled for publication in late 2009 and/or 2010.

All submissions should include a cover page with the following information:
(1) the title of the poem, short story, and/or creative essay;
(2) author's name and/or pen name;
(3) author's email address;
(4) author's telephone number;
(5) author's mailing address; and
(6) the theme/topic that is addressed by the poem, short story, and/or creative essay

The first page of each submission should start directly with the author's poem, short story, and/or creative essay. Be sure to put page numbers on every page submitted, except the cover page. Also, be sure to double space each line and to use 12 point, black font.

Writers should email submissions to lpinder@thetakeactionnetwork.com by 3 p.m. on the 28th calendar day of each month starting January 2015.

TAKE ACTION! Publishing DOES NOT OFFER monetary payment for accepted submissions. However, individuals whose original poems, short stories, and/or creative essays are selected for inclusion in one of our anthologies will be invited to join our Writers' Network.

Membership in the Writers Network includes the following categories:

BASIC (FREE)

(1) inclusion of at least one original poem, short story, and/or creative essay in one of our anthologies;
(2) half-price discounts on the anthology that contains your writing(s);
(3) access to public announcement and press kit templates;
(4) an invitation to participate in the national press release for the anthology that contains your writing(s); and
(5) an opportunity to earn income for selling the anthology that contains your writings

Publishing does not guarantee inclusion in any of our anthologies. All submitted writings are reviewed and selected based on the relevance to the anthology theme/topic and the quality of the writing.*

DELUXE

These additional items can be included for a $15.95 charge per item:

(1) a full page bio;
(2) a head shot picture; and
(3) your contact information page

Other Important Information You Should Know:

- The term, original, means that (1) you - not anyone else - created the writing that you submitted to TAKE ACTION! Publishing for inclusion in one of our anthologies; and (2) the work that you have submitted has not already been published in print or included in any other anthology.

- Original poems, short stories, and personal essays included in our anthologies are NOT considered to be the property of TAKE ACTION! Publishing. Members can retain ownership of all their submitted writing(s). However, members should know that their submitted writing(s) will receive some form of editing before publication.

- In order to become a DELUXE member with TAKE ACTION! Publishing, you must have first been invited to become a BASIC member. TAKE ACTION! Publishing has the right to decline submitted writings. Submitting an original poem, short story, and/or creative essay to TAKE ACTION! Publishing does not guarantee inclusion in any of our anthologies. All submitted writings are reviewed and selected based on the relevance of the anthology topic and the quality of the writing.

- TAKE ACTION! Publishing sets a maximum sale price for all of its publications. Members may lower the price of our books/anthologies at their discretion, but should not raise the price beyond the sale price established by TAKE ACTION! Publishing.
